Bahrain Mirror: Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) said that it received information from Jaw Central Prison indicating that Sheikh Zuheir Ashour and his companions have been prevented from making calls for a week, and that this period could be extended as a kind of punishment against them.

The organization added that Sheikh Zuheir and the other prisoners were also denied access to the prison yard. Prison officers expressed their intentions to prevent inmates from commemorating Ashura.

In light of this, prisoners in building 23 carried out a protest demanding the prison administration, particularly Officer Radwan, who is in charge of the building and directly responsible for this punishment, to stop harassing them and allow them to practice their religious rituals freely in the month of Muharram. Prisoners stressed that they will not stop their protest until they have their demands achieved.

ADHRB held the Interior Ministry responsible for the harassment Sheikh Zuheir Ashour and his prison colleagues are being subject to and demanded that prisoners be granted the right to practice their religious rituals freely and allowed to make phone calls and go out to sunbathe.

Sheikh Zuheir Ashour, who was sentenced to twice life imprisonment on March 16, 2021, was subjected to an attempted murder inside the prison by a criminal prisoner, who was a member in the Bahraini army (Defence Force).
