Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini Interior Ministry announced the death of a 35-year-old prisoner after suffering from sickle cell complications.

Human rights activists had declared the death of the inmate and demanded an investigation into the circumstances of his death.

Hassan Abdulnabi Mansour was sentenced to three months in prison, but was not included in the alternative penalty law despite the seriousness of his health situation, said Ahmad Al-Wedaei, director of the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy.

Al-Wadaei said that the prisoner suffered medical negligence in the Dry Dock Prison, adding that there was a procrastination in giving him his medications and delay in transferring him to the prison clinic.

The prisoner was groaning and crying in pain, which prompted his cell mates to knock heavily on the doors until he was transferred to the prison clinic. Al-Wadaei indicated that the prisoner was transferred to the prison clinic and then to Al-Salmaniya Medical Complex, where he passed away.

Al-Wadaei called on the government to investigate the prisoner's death circumstances.

The Interior Ministry said that the inmate is sentenced in a criminal case and that he was transferred to the hospital on July 19, 2021 after undergoing tests in the center's clinic.
