Washington Says Life Term against Sheikh Ali Salman Narrows space for Free Expression and Political Activity in Bahrain

Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): The US Department of State said that the verdict issued by the cassation court in Bahrain against the opposition leader Sheikh Ali Salman "narrows the space for free expression and political activity" in the country.
State Department Deputy Spokesperson Robert Palladino said via his Twitter account that the verdict issued on Monday (January 28, 2019) in Bahrain "against former parliamentarian Ali Salman narrows the space for free expression and political activity, something historically protected under Bahrain's constitutional system."
A Bahraini cassation court upheld life term against Sheikh Ali Salman over "colluding with Qatar" charge and also upheld, in absentia, life imprisonment against Sheikh Hasan Sultan and Ali Al-Aswad over the same charge, noting that both of them have been outside Bahrain since 2011.
