Bahrain Mirror: A prisoner who suffers from acute sickle cell disease told his family on Thursday (December 13, 2018) that he was denied phone calls for three weeks without committing any violation or clear reason for the ban.
Ahmed Mirza explained that his health condition required him to visit the prison infirmary twice, where the doctor prescribed him medication. The Jaw Prison Administration; however, has denied him access to medication for about a week.
It is noteworthy that Ahmed Mirza has been deprived of the right to visitation since a year and 9 months ago.
On Tuesday, December 4, 2018, Amnesty International described the case of prisoner of conscience Ahmed Mirza as "the worst cases of medical negligence in Bahrain."
Earlier, activists said that Jaw Prison administration was stalling the treatment of Ahmed, as he was in need of an urgent operation to remove the gallbladder for more than two years, let alone the severe sickle cell disease seizures he suffered from. The prison administration also prevented him from going to the hospital for his doctor's surgery appointments despite the messages which he sent to the prison administration, also denying him medication and painkillers.
It is worth noting that security authorities arrested Ahmed Mirza in September of 2013 and sentenced him to 10 years in prison over politically-motivated charges.
