Bahrain Mirror: The European Union criticized the life sentence issued by the appeals court in Bahrain against Secretary-General of the dissolved Al-Wefaq political society, who is already serving a 4-year jail sentence.
The union said "we publicly expressed concerns over the increasingly limited political space in Bahrain, including for non-violent opposition."
It added that this decision marks another worrying step in the direction of confrontation and polarization in Bahrain, undermining the chances of an inclusive political debate.
It indicated that the verdict comes ahead of Bahraini Parliamentary elections from which many political societies have been banned.
The European Union urged the Bahraini government to reconsider this sentence and to fulfil its international and national Human Rights commitments in the interest of the long term stability.
