Bahrain Mirror: Bahraini authorities arrested at least 20 people, on Monday (October 1, 2018), after a raid launched in the early hours of the morning on a number of predominantly opposition areas.
Bahrain has stepped up the pace of arrests as legislative elections approach, which are to be held on November 24, 2018. Al-Wefaq, the largest opposition party in the country, announced its boycott of the elections.
According to information, two people were apprehended by security forces in Sitra while six others surrendered themselves to security forces after civilian forces raided their homes. Reports also said that 5 arrests were made in Juffair and seven in a number of different areas across the kingdom.
The authorities have launched a campaign of arrests in the western and southern parts of the capital, Manama, targeting protestors.
Bahrain is witnessing intermittent protests demanding democracy and human rights. The ruling Al Khalifa family has rejected calls to settle the ongoing conflict since the popular uprising was crushed in 2011.
