HRW Demands Putting End to Arbitrary Deportations of Bahrainis

Bahrain Mirror: Human Rights Watch (HRW) said on Sunday that the Bahraini authorities have deported eight stateless Bahrainis, whom they had previously stripped of their citizenship, over charge of "damaging state security."

The organization stated that the eight were deported to Najaf on January 30 and February 1, after they were revoked of their citizenships in 2012.

It added that the Bahraini authorities have stripped 578 nationals of their citizenship since 2012.

HRW called on Bahrain to "immediately put an end to these arbitrary deportations and restore citizenship to those who have been left stateless or whose citizenship was revoked unfairly or arbitrarily".

"Bahraini authorities have dropped all pretense of pluralism and tolerance for dissent and are clearly stripping away the citizenships of people whom they find undesirable," said Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East director at Human Right Watch.
