Military Court Sentences 6 to Death, 7 Others to 7 Years in Jail over Plotting to Assassinate Marshal Khalifa

Bahrain Mirror: A Bahraini military court sentenced on Monday (December 25, 2017) 6 citizens to death, 15 years in prison and revoked their nationality in a case related to plotting to assassinate Bahrain Defence Force Commander-in-Chief field marshal Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa. The court also sentenced 7 others to seven years in jail and revoked their citizenship. Meanwhile, it acquitted 5 defendants.

Bahrain News Agency published the following official statement:

The Military High Court today (25/12/2017)  issued its ruling in the case of 18 members of a terrorist cell, ten of whom appeared in custody and eight were fugitives in Bahrain or abroad in Iran and Iraq.

The defendants were accused with the formation of a terrorist cell, attempting to assassinate the BDF Commander-in-Chief and committing other terrorist crimes.

The court convicted and sentenced the six defendants to capital punishment, 15 years in jail and the revocation of their Bahraini nationality. They are:

1-      Mubarak Adel Mubarak Mahanna (Soldier)

2-      Fadhel Al Sayed Abbas Hassan Radhi

3-       Sayed Alawi Hussain Alawi Hussain

4-       Mohammed Abdulhassan Ahmed Al-Metghawi

5-      Murtada Majeed Ramadan Alawi (Al-Sindi)

6-       Habeeb Abdullah Hassan Ali (Al-Jamri)

The court also convicted and sentenced seven defendants to seven years in jail and stripped them of their Bahraini nationality. They are:

1-      Mohammed Abdulhassan Saleh Al-Shehabi

2-       Mohammed Abdulwahid Mohammed Al-Najjar

3-      Hussain Mohammed Ahmed Shehab

4-      Mohammed Yousef Marhoon Al-Ajmi

5-      Hussain Ali Mohsen Baddaw

6-      Sayed Mohammed Qassim Mohammed

7-      Ali Jaffar Hassan Al Rayes

The court acquitted five defendants:

1-      Ali Ahmed Khalifa Salman (Al-Karbabadi)

2-      Hussain Essam Hussain Al-Durazi

3-      Muntazhir Fawzi Abdulkareem Mahdi

4-      Rami Ahmed Ali Al-Aryash

5-      Mohamed Abdullah Ebrahim Abbas

According to the statement, representatives of human rights institutions and societies and media and several relatives of the defendants attended the court session.
