Bahrain Mirror - Exclusive: The Islamic Republic of Iran expressed concern the continuous persecution of Shiites in Bahrain, arrests, and deprivation of citizenships for some Shiite religious clerics.

In its intervention on Monday (May 1, 2017) during the 27th UPR session in Geneva on Bahrain's human rights record, Iran said that Bahrain increased its pressures on civil society institutions, dissolved political parties, and imprisoned spiritual leaders. Iran also noted the revocation of some religious cleric's citizenships.

Iran recommended the Bahraini government to fully implement all UPR recommendations, including the release of prisoners of conscience. It demanded Bahrain to resort to a real national dialogue that meets the Bahraini people's aspirations.
