King Hamad Forms Legislative Committee to Review Unified Family Law

Bahrain Mirror: King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has issued a Royal Order 24/ 2017 on the formation of a legislative committee to review the family draft law.

The Shura council had approved the unified family draft. Meanwhile, senior Shiite clerics said that the law contradicts with the Islamic Law.

Article One of the royal order states the formation of the Legislative Committee that consists of:

1- Sheikh Abdulhussain bin Khalaf Al-Asfoor.

2- Sheikh Abdullatif bin Mahmoud Al-Mahmoud.

3- Sheikh Adnan bin Abdullah Al-Qattan.

4- Sheikh Nasser bin Ahmed Al-Asfoor.

5- Sheikh Rashid bin Hassan Al-Buainain.

6- Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed Al-Hajri.

7- Sheikh Sulaiman bin Mansour Al-Sitri.

8- Sheikh Jawad bin Abdullah Abbas Hussain.

9- Sheikh Abdulrahman Dhurar Al-Shaer.

10- Sheikh Mohammed Tahir bin Sulaiman Al-Madani.

 

Article Two stipulates that the committee will hold its meetings at the Headquarters of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.

Article Three specifies that the committee will consider the family draft law, its provisions and to ensure they are in accord with Islamic law.

Article Four states that the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission will undertake the responsibilities of the committee's secretariat.

Article Five stipulates that the committee will submit a report to the Royal Court on its findings and recommendations with regard to the draft referred to it, and that the committee's work ends immediately after the issuance the family law in conformity with the constitutional procedures.

Article Six specifies that the Royal Order will take effect from the date of its issuance and to be published in the official gazette.
