A Bahraini court ruled last Thursday (December 29, 2016) the release of Nabeel Rajab on bail, under a travel ban. The prosecution however said that Rajab was then detained in relation to another case charging him with "spreading false news", keeping him custody for 7 days pending investigation.
Rajab is on trial on charges of spreading Tweets critical of the war in Yemen, in which Bahrain took part and the torture of prisoners in Jaw Prison. Nabeel Rajab posted these tweets in early 2015, yet the authorities started its movement in this regarding a year after.
Human rights organizations say that Rajab's trial lacks fair trial standards, and is political, due to his rights role in monitoring and revealing human rights violations in Bahrain since 2011.
