Bahrain Mirror: The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa issued a statement, in which it denied its participation in the so-called "Arab Forum on Iranian threats to Pan-Arab Human Security" to be held in Bahrain on August 6, 2016.
The office said that it was surprised to read a news report published today on August 1 by the Arab Federation for Human Rights, claiming that the OHCHR Regional Office for Middle East and North Africa is attending the Arab Forum on Iranian threats to Pan-Arab Human Security. The regional office denied that will take part in the forum, adding that it didn't receive an invitation in the first place and if it did, it would have declined.
The UN office's statement denounced listing its name among the attendees of a purely political forum, about which it wasn't even informed and which the office didn't confirm attending. The office stressed that this instigates the circulation of false information, reflecting a wrong image about the office's work and orientations.
The statement further read that the main mission of the OHCHR is to defend the issues that serve protecting human rights and raising awareness on human rights, and thus it was necessary to issue this explanatory statement.
