Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's High Court of Appeals decreased the sentence of a suspect accused of attempted murder of a policeman from 15 to 10 years in prison.

The first high criminal court had convicted 25 defendants over charges of attempting to kill a policeman and detonating explosives in Ekr. The court sentenced 22 suspects to 15 years in prison, while issuing a 3-year jail term against another suspect and acquitting two others.

The Public prosecution claims that on October 7, 2012, the defendants, along with other unknown suspects, attempted to kill 2 policemen in Ekr, using violence to achieve their aim. The defendants prepared an ambush for the policemen; they arranged an assembly and attacked the police. While the policemen were attempting to disperse the defendants, the suspects detonated explosives, leaving the policemen injured.

The prosecution further alleges that the defendants, along with other unknown suspects, detonated bombs aiming at intimidating residents of the area. The prosecution accused them of taking part, along with other unknown suspects, in an assembly of more than 5 persons, aiming at disrupting public peace as well as acquiring flammable and explosive materials aiming at using them to endanger people's lives and properties.
