Bahrain Mirror: Bahraini High Court of Appeals upheld a court of first instance's verdict against a suspect over acquiring explosives and acquitted him of charge of assembling. The court had sentenced the suspect to 3 years in prison. The suspect took part in as assembly and after investigations, an arrest permission was issued against him. Searching his home, materials used in explosives were found.
The Public Prosecution accused the suspect of acquiring explosives and taking part in an assembly of more than 5 people, aiming at disturbing public peace and endangering people's lives and properties.
Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against political detainees, since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
