Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini Supreme Court of Appeals commuted the sentence issued by the court of first instance against Ali Bahraini (21 years old), who was convicted of burning tires and pouring oils near Adhari Park on the main road, from 5 to 3 years in prison.
The Public Prosecution claimed that the suspect, along with other unknown suspects, deliberately burnt tires aiming at putting people's lives and public and private properties in danger. It further accused them of participating in an assembly of more than 5 persons, aiming at violating public security, acquiring Molotov cocktails and threatening public transportation security.
Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against the suspects since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
