Bahrain Mirror: The local Bahraini Al-Ayam newspaper, owned by the information advisor to the Bahraini King, Nabeel Al-Hamer, reported that the president of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, has formally submitted candidacy paperwork for the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) presidency.
The newspaper added that Salman's candidacy comes "after pressures by a large number of associations and international figures who see him as the right man to restore FIFA's reverence."
It is noteworthy that human rights organizations exerted massive pressures against the nomination of the Bahraini Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, who is accused of torturing dissent in Bahrain during 2011, and these pressures have led to the delay of the announcement of his candidacy for the FIFA presidency.
