Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini senior lecturer in the Sociology department at Lund University in Sweden, Abdulhadi Khalaf, described one of the members of Bahrain's ruling Al Khalifa family, Duaij Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, as the "first ISIS [extremist] in Bahrain."

On his personal Twitter account, Khalaf said that Duaij "led the group that attacked funeral processions in 1953 and then became a judge that prosecuted the leaders of the [National Union] Committee in 1956."

"Those who think that sectarianism began in 2011 disregard the fact that the National Union Committee was established in 1954 to confront the policy of sectarian segregation practiced by the Al Khalifa regime," Khalaf further stated.

He went on to say that the king and his family "are continuing what their ancestors did to this country and its people: oppression, plunder and segregation," stressing that they "find in every generation henchmen among religious clerics and dignitaries who aid them in their oppression, plunder and segregation."
