The Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) said that the electricity production cost is 30 Fils/KW, however it is subsidized and sold at 3 Fils only. The authority added that the water production cost is 750 Fils/m2, however it is sold at 70 Fils only.

National Audit Office report for the years 2016-2017 said that the Electricity and Water Authority did not take any measures against consumers who stopped paying the bills over long periods of time.

Deputy Director General at Electricity and Water Authority in Bahrain, Adnan Fakhro, said that the Authority is continuing its strategy to gradually lifting the subsidies on electricity for foreigners and Bahraini nationals’ second account.

The Electricity & Water Authority denied on Sunday (July 9, 2017) raising the cost on electricity and water for Bahraini users, noting that the cost is printed on the back of electricity and water bills for years.

Bahraini daily newspaper Al-Wasat, said that the government had expressed reservations on two proposals presented by the Council of Representatives, suggesting a reduction in electricity and water bills, reminding them of the country’s sensitive economic conditions.

Um Nassim said that "the Electricity and Water Authority has more than once cut the power" in her home, "despite knowing the conditions of the family."
