Families of Detainees Tried to Deliver Letter to PM Court in Al-Gudaibiya

Bahrain Mirror: Families of detainees in Jaw Central Prison said they tried to deliver a letter to Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa's office demanding revealing the fate of 14 political detainees with whom contact had been cut off.

The efforts of the families to hand over the letter failed, and it was delivered by email, according to the statement.

The families said they lost contact with their sons more than two weeks ago, and after a series of attempts with the concerned authorities, only 6 prisoners called their families for a very short period of time.

The families said their anxiety increased as one of the detainees who contacted his family sent a distress call, saying they are being mistreated and physically harmed.

They said they had submitted letters to the Minister of Interior and the Director General of Reformation and Rehabilitation on August 24, 2022.

The families said the scheduled monthly visit, which falls on Thursday, August 26, 2022, has been canceled.

"We are further concerned that the harm they are being subjected to may affect their bodies," they added.

"Therefore, we went to the office of the Prime Minister and the Crown Prince and submitted a written letter that was refused to be received by hand and was sent by email instead."

The families expressed their hope that political prisoners would be released (...) and allowed to call their families.
