Bahrain Mirror: The First High Appeals Court rejected the appeals of a suspect out of 10 accused of joining "Bahraini Hezbollah" and upheld sentencing him to 15 years in jail and revoking his citizenship.

The first instance court has revoked the citizenship of the 10 suspects, sentenced 8 of them to 15 years in jail, fined two of them 200.000 BD and sentenced the other two to 3 years in jail and 500 BD fine to each of them.

The authorities accuse the suspects of "acquiring Kalashnikovs and attempting to murder a policeman in Nuwaidrat".

Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against political detainees, since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
