Bahrain Mirror: The High Appeals Court upheld a 5-year jail term against suspects convicted of taking part in blasting a gas cylinder in front an exchange shop in Saar and causing damages to it and to the nearby shops.

The Public Prosecution accused the suspects of deliberately setting fire, along with other unknowns, on April 23, 2015, to an exchange shop in Saar, that would people's lives to danger. It also accused them of causing, along with other unknowns, a blast for a terrorist aim and taking part in an assembly of more than 5 persons, aiming at disrupting public peace, as well as acquiring Molotov.

The Fourth High Criminal Court had sentenced 9 suspects to 10 years in jail and handed down 5-year jail term to the fifth and sixth suspects over the same case. The fifth and sixth suspects rejected to the verdict and appealed it. However, the appeals court rejected the appeal and upheld the verdict issued against them. The first appellant challenged the verdict in the cassation court that accepted it and returned the case to the court that issued a verdict to repeat the trial and reconsider it.

The alternative punishment law hasn't been issued at that time, thus the appeals of the second appellant was reversed by the cassation court to reconsider the sentence against him.

All the givens prove that the 2 defendants committed the crime and the court didn't find anything to acquit them. The court also refused to apply the alternative punishment law against them instead of the sentence because it sees that it's not applied in such conditions. The appeals court accepted the appeal in from, rejected in substance and upheld the issued verdict.
