Lack of Medicine at Al-Salmaniya Pharmacy Threatens Lives of Transplant Patients

Bahrain Mirror: Transplant patients complained about running out of "Tacrolimus" medicine at Al-Salmaniya Medical Complex pharmacy since over 2 weeks.

They noted that their lives and health are at risk after stopping the medicine, which may lead to the failure of their organs transplantation surgery.

Patients stated that this medicine is not available at private pharmacies and that the nearest place the medicine is available is in the Saudi capital Riyadh, indicating that the price of a package amounts to 100 Dinars.

It is to mention that Tacrolimus medicine is a permanent treatment for patients who underwent organ transplant surgeries. It works on weakening the body's immune system in a way to prevent rejection of a kidney, heart, or liver transplant.
