Bahrain Mirror: The Speaker of the Qatari Shura Council denounced the position of the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Adel Al-Assoumi, a Bahraini national, who "failed to condemn the malicious campaigns" against Qatar hosting the FIFA World Cup, "even though the majority of Arab Parliament members stood by the State of Qatar and supported issuing a statement in this regard."

It is worth noting that the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Adel Al-Assoumi, lost in the recent parliamentary elections in Bahrain, since he was removed from the list of candidates, after a Bahraini court confirmed that he provided a false address for his residence, and therefore he was removed and lost his parliamentary status.

On Wednesday, the Qatari Shura Council office held a meeting chaired by Council Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim. The meeting discussed the items on the office's agenda.

During the meeting, the office of the Council criticized "the personal position of the Speaker of the Arab Parliament and his insistence on not condemning the malicious campaigns launched against the State of Qatar's hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, despite the majority of members of the Arab Parliament standing by the State of Qatar and supporting issuing a statement in this regard."

The council office also expressed its "strong dissatisfaction with this unfriendly position, which goes against the principles upon which the parliament was established, and benefits foreign agendas that do not serve the interest of the Arab peoples."

Meanwhile, the office of the Council appreciated "the positions supporting the State of Qatar hosting the tournament voiced by a number of regional and international parliamentary organizations and unions, such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States, and the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union."
