Bahrain Mirror: The Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society called on the Bahraini government to respond promptly to a request by three UN experts to visit Bahrain to look closely at the human rights situation and make recommendations.
Al-Wefaq said the authorities' conduct in evading international control mechanisms would perpetuate the deterioration of human rights conditions.
The UN Special Rapporteur on extra-judicial summary or arbitrary executions submitted a request to visit Bahrain on November 22, 2021 and so did the Independent Expert on the promotion of a democratic and equitable international order on October 20, 2021. Meanwhile, the Special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment recalled his visit request on January 27, 2021.
Al-Wefaq said this is the first time that an independent expert on the promotion of a democratic and equitable international order demands to visit Bahrain. His mandate aims to support the establishment of an international order based on the principles enshrined in the UN Charter.
This includes promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all and respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, peace, democracy, justice, equality, the rule of law, pluralism, development, better standards of living and solidarity.
