Bahrain Mirror: Popular crowds symbolically mourned the detained martyr, Hussein Barakat, 48, in his hometown, in Al-Daih village, west of Manama, after Bahraini security forces prevented his funeral from being held on health grounds.
Barakat died today, June 9, 2021, in one of the Bahraini hospitals.
The symbolic funeral was attended by mass crowds who chanted slogans against the king.
The Bahraini authorities refuse to release thousands of political detainees amid outbreak of the Coronavirus in prisons.
Mourners held the authorities responsible for the death of detainees in prison after several deaths cases, noting that Abbas Maluallah died two months ago in prison.
Sheikh Isa Qassim had demanded in an earlier statement the release of prisoners before being killed by the epidemic and warned the government of Bahrain of keeping prisoners to die in prison.
Bahrain has witnessed in the past two months a series of protests demanding the release of prisoners after dozens of infections were detected among them, however, the authorities refuse to release them.
Bahraini prisons are overcrowded with thousands of detainees after a severe crackdown since 2011 following the suppression of the Pearl Roundabout sit-in with the help of Gulf forces.
