Bahrain Says It will Evacuate Its Citizens in Doha, Calls on Qatar "Not to Interfere"

2020-03-29 - 6:12 am

Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini National Communication Centre (NCC) confirmed that the Bahraini authorities arranged an evacuation flight for the 31 citizens stranded in Doha. The citizens are to be evacuated on Sunday (March 29, 2020).

The NCC stressed that the Qatari authorities should stop interfering with these flights through their scheduling of commercial flights, as doing so exposes not only the travelers to health risks posed by the outbreak of COVID-19, but also the crews of repatriation aircraft and anyone present at the airports where those flights transit, adding that they lack the necessary precautionary measures recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).

"Qatar offered to fly the Bahraini citizens on a private charter flight to Bahrain at no expense to the individuals or the government of Bahrain. The government of Bahrain declined this option," a statement from the Government Communication Office said.

The Qatari authorities called on the Bahraini authorities to allow their citizens to return home after the two-week quarantine. The Qatari authorities said they will continue to provide the stranded Bahrainis with hospitality and care if their government refused to receive them.
