Bahrain Mirror: The Public Prosecution said that the number of convicts who made use of the alternative punishment since its implementation on May has reached 586, noting that they didn't include political prisoners.
The authorities released the convicts in return for serving alternative sentences which are usually in the service of the community.
Political prisoners complained that their requests to replace their punishments have been rejected.
Fatima Al-Halwachi, daughter of leader Khalil Al-Halwachi who is sentenced to 10 years in prison, said that the judiciary rejected two days ago a request to alternate his punishment.
Meanwhile, two drug users reported that the judiciary agreed to substitute their punishment.
