Labor Minister: 2,200 Unemployed Registered in National Employment Program So Far

Bahrain Mirror: The Minister of Labor and Social Development Jameel Humaidan said that the number of unemployed registered to date in the National Program for Employment reached 2,200 applicants, pointing out that the increase in the number of enrollments in the program does not exceed 30% of the total applicants so far.

Humaidan said in a press release that the usual number of applicants recorded in a similar period is between 1,600 and 1,800.

The National Employment Program is based on four main initiatives. The first is the launching of a comprehensive awareness campaign to register citizens seeking job opportunities in accordance with registration procedures that complement and reinforce the efforts of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development. The second is to increase unemployment benefits from 150 to 200 dinars for university graduates, And to increase the period of the unemployment benefits from 150 to 200 dinars for university graduates, from 120 to 150 for others and also increase the period of benefits and compensation to nine months instead of six as currently practiced, in addition to increasing the compensation of those dismissed and laid off to a maximum of 1,000 dinars instead of 500 as currently applied, as well as raise the minimum to 200 dinars instead of 150. The third is to raise the permits fees imposed on enterprises that did not achieve the required rates of Bahrainization from 300 dinars to 500, in addition to raising the fees imposed on flexible employment permits for foreigners from 200 to 500 dinars with a monthly fee of 30 dinars,. The fourth is redesigning the training program and support of wages in the Tamkeen Fund, to make it more adaptable to the requirements of the labor market.
