Court Upholds Prison Terms Reaching Up to 15 Years, Strips 11 Appellants of Nationality in Political Case

Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini High Court of Appeal upheld prison sentences ranging between 15 years and 6 months against 16 appellants out of 21 defendants, also upholding the revocation of the nationalities of 11 appellants in a politically motivated case.

The authorities accuse the defendants of establishing a "terrorist group", possessing explosives, firearms and ammunition, training on the use of weapons, initiating the smuggling of convicts and helping defendants escape the grip of the authorities.

The first instance court had sentenced the first and second defendants to 15 years imprisonment, from the third to the ninth defendants to 10 years, the 10th to 13th defendants to 7 years, the 14th defendant to 5 years, the 15th defendant to 7 years, the 16th defendant to six months, the 17th, 19th, 20th and 21st defendants to 3 years, the 12th defendant to one year, and the 18th defendant to six months, stripping the first defendant through the 14th of their nationalities.
