Bahrain Mirror: A Bahraini official congratulated Michelle Bachelet on her appointment as the new UN human rights chief following Zeid bin Ra'ad Al Hussein and wished that her term will be distinguished by objectivity and fairness.

Assistant Foreign Minister Abdullah Al Dosari said that his country aspires for "a successful term of office and constructive and transparent co-operation with all countries to achieve progress that couldn't be attained during the past tenure".

He hoped that the tenure of the new High Commissioner will be distinguished by objectivity, fairness and transparency in equally dealing with human rights issues among all states and in the same international standards, in order to restore the position of the commissioner.

Al-Dosari said that his country "is willing to hold constructive meetings with the UN's newly appointed High Commissioner for Human Rights to turn a new page towards developing healthy relations with the office of the high commissioner of the human rights".

Bahrain's relation with the previous commissioner was tensed for his repeated criticism to the human rights record of the country that witnesses severe violations, including torture, according to human rights organizations.
