Bahrain Mirror: Eyewitnesses said that the security authorities started today (Tuesday, July 10, 2018) removing the security checkpoints deployed at streets near the house of spiritual leader of Shia majority Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim, one day after he left Bahrain to receive treatment abroad.
Activists said that the authorities removed a security checkpoint at the entrance of Salman city, located near Diraz village and Al-Budai street.
The authorities have imposed a siege on Diraz (hometown of Sheikh Isa Qassim) since June 2016, after they revoked his citizenship and prosecuted him. They also intensified their siege and imposed a house arrest on Sheikh Qassim since late May 2017, after forcibly dispersing the peaceful sit-in staged outside his house.
Photos published by activists on social media outlets showed a heavy deployment of security forces on one of the streets near Sheikh Qassim's house, along with a vehicle for removing the cement barriers.
It is expected that the search and security checkpoints would be removed in the coming days, after Sheikh Qassim left the country.
