Bahrain Mirror: Prominent Bahraini human rights activist Ebtisam Al-Sayegh said that detainee Amira Al-Qasha'mi was harassed and threatened by the prison administration, which imposed a new punishment on her because of her possession of a pen, which she used in writing.

Al-Sayegh explained via her Instagram account that Al-Qasha'mi, who is serving a five-year prison sentence over political grounds, had applied a request for getting a pen to jot down some of her writings. The request was approved, and she was given a pen.

The family had expressed concern about their daughter's situation and the possibility of her receiving punishment or being deprived of one of her rights for no convincing reason or offense committed.

The authorities had arrested Sheikh Mohammed Saleh Al-Qasha'mi, his son and daughter on politically-motivated charges. After months of imprisonment and trial, the first court acquitted Sheikh Al-Qasha'mi of the charges raised against him, yet sentenced his son and daughter to prison.
