MPs Discuss Health Insurance Next Tuesday

Bahrain Mirror: The next session of the Bahraini House of Representatives to be held on Tuesday will discuss the health insurance bill, which consists of 82 articles, and aims at providing a comprehensive and investment appealing system of high quality, characterized by flexibility and financial sustainability through the establishment of a health insurance fund. The bill also clarifies that all the mandatory health insurance services are offered to citizens without charge, adding that the Supreme Council of Health determines the duties to be paid by the non-Bahraini beneficiary.

The draft law includes 19 health services, including dental treatment, IVF children, obesity treatment, therapeutic beauty services, long hospital stays and all chronic diseases.

The bill also applies to citizens, residents and visitors, and also applies to non-Bahraini women married to Bahraini and non-Bahraini men married to a Bahraini woman and their children treating them as citizens in benefiting from the system.

The employer shall also be obliged to register his workers in the health insurance and provide all the necessary information about non-Bahrainis for insurance coverage. The employer will be penalized with a fine not less than five hundred dinars and not more than 50,000 dinars for providing false or misleading information deliberately, or disrupting or disabling the work of inspectors of the National Authority.

The law stipulates that any citizen or any eligible person may obtain any of the optional health packages provided by the Fund, supported by the State at a rate to be determined by the Council of Ministers upon the proposal of the Supreme Council of Health, provided that the subsidy rate shall not be less than 60% of the optional health package value.
