Bahrain to Repeal Legal Provision Not Penalizing Rapist who Marries his Victim

Bahrain Mirror: A Bahraini parliamentary committee said it had agreed to repeal Article 353 of the Penal Code, which stipulates that a rapist should not be punished if he decides to marry his victim.

The article states that "a person who commits an offense stipulated in the preceding articles (rape and sexual assault) shall not be sentenced to a penalty should he undergo a valid marriage between him and the victim, and if a final ruling was issued against him before the marriage contract, its execution shall be terminated as well as its criminal effects.
