Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini House of Representatives approved Decree-Law No. (38) of 2017 on Tuesday (March 20, 2018), amending certain provisions of the Telecommunications Law promulgated by Decree Law No. (48) of 2002, which aims at enabling the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications as well as the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) to license telecommunications companies that provide infrastructure services.
The representatives of the Ministry and TRA disclosed that the fourth national telecommunications plan was directed at splitting the Batelco company into two separate entities, both functionally and legally; one of which would be responsible for the national terrestrial cable network and the other for providing retail services.
The Ministry said that the new company, which will carry out the development process, will be fully operational in May 2019, as it will construct a fiber optic network that provides high-quality and high-speed communication services.
