Parliamentary Proposal to Deem February 14 an Official Holiday
2018-02-19 - 10:27 p
Bahrain Mirror: A Bahraini member of parliament submitted a proposal to consider February 14 of every year as an official holiday, marking the vote on the National Action Charter.
"The proposal comes due to the significance of the National Action Charter, which is ‘the core of the reform project' of the King," said MP Dhiab Al-Nuaimi.
February 14 also marks the day on which the largest protests were staged in Bahrain's history in 2011, in which hundreds of thousands of citizens took part demanding an end to the ruling Al Khalifa family's monopoly over power and a peaceful transition of power.
Every year on February 14, Bahrain witnesses widespread protests and violent clashes between protesters and security forces.
