Government Expresses Reservation about Bill Obligating Gulf Nationals to Start Construction on Land within 5 Years of Purchase

Bahrain Mirror: The government has expressed reservation regarding a bill based on a House of Representatives law proposal on GCC nationals' ownership of estates and lands in Bahrain, obligating the Gulf nationals to start constructing on the land within five years of the date of purchase.
The government stated that there is no need that would justify an amendment that violates Bahrain's international commitments and obligations. The bill is contradicts government policies and undermines confidence in investment, adding that the bill renders foreign ownership of land in Bahrain better than that of GCC nationals, also causing many technical problems upon implementation.
