Bahrain Mirror: A delegation from the Bahraini House of Representatives visited the Republic of Iraq in an official visit, during which it met Iraqi President Fuad Masum, Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaafari and Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim Al-Jabouri.

The Iraqi President Fuad Masum received the parliamentary delegation at As-Salam Palace in Baghdad on Thursday (January 18, 2018), where the Bahraini parliamentary delegation informed about Manama's desire to "work together" with Iraq.

The Bahraini delegation, headed by MP Ali Al-Aradi, also met with Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaafari, and expressed their "congratulations on the victories achieved by the Iraqi people in their war against the terrorist ISIS gangs," praising "the sacrifices made and the blood shed by the Iraqis to preserve Iraq's unity and sovereignty." The delegation further stressed that "Iraq is taking strong steps towards returning to its leading position regarding the issues of the Arab region, especially with the great achievements in its war against terrorism."

The delegation visited the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament Salim Jubouri, who said that "the peoples of the region and our peoples have common concerns in need of serious dialogue, discussion and mutual understanding."

The Bahraini delegation is visiting Iraq at the invitation of Iraqi authorities, but the visit comes within the framework of a Gulf campaign led by Saudi Arabia to open up to Iraq, especially after the defeat of ISIS, which had control over about one-third of Iraq.
