Al-Wefaq Sees that Adding Sheikh Sultan to Terror Lists Reflects Political Exploitation

Bahrain Mirror: Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, the largest opposition group in Bahrain, said that classifying one of Bahrain's parliamentarians, Sheikh Hasan Sultan, as a terrorist in Gulf blacklists reveals that these Gulf terror lists are targeting people of differing opinions and peaceful activists in the political field.

Al-Wefaq stressed that this classification is unprofessional, biased and unrelated to reality. It reflects the extent of political exploitation and arbitrary decisions practiced under the guise of terrorism accusations, highlighting how dangerous the status quo is when the classification of terrorism is generalized to include anyone who has a different opinion that does not agree with the ruling regimes.

Al-Wefaq pointed out that those who demand democracy, call for the necessary implementation of political reforms and social justice and raise the banners of freedom and human rights are being accused of terrorism, which is extremely dangerous, especially as these demands come to curb tyranny, corruption and theft of public money and injustice practiced against citizens.

Al-Wefaq further stated that the internationalization of internal political and humanitarian crisis and casting it in the Qatari Gulf dispute will not help achieve the political goals that the regime strives for, and will not affect the legitimate national demands whatsoever.

Al-Wefaq said Sheikh Hasan's political approach, doctrine, ideas as well as his national, political and societal efforts do not concord with this designation at all.

Al-Wefaq stressed that the former MP in its parliamentary bloc Sheikh Hasan Sultan is one of the advocates of political reform and peaceful activism, adding that he has a clean record and a distinguished career in political opposition work. He was one of the main participants in launching the political process after 2000, i.e. before the regime launched a campaign of security measures in 2011.

Al-Wefaq called for using the language of reason and rationality instead of a weak and unproductive policy of retaliation, especially in dealing with internal issues that require wisdom and efforts for resolving them.
