UK Hopes GCC Regains Unity after Qatar Rift

2017-06-09 - 12:06 am

Bahrain Mirror: Britain's spokesman for the Middle East and North Africa, Edwin Samuel, said that his country hopes a solution is reached soon, and that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) regains its unity, after states have severed ties with Qatar over claims of supporting terrorism.

In a statement issued by the Dubai-based regional media and communications center, Samuel said that "it is the UK's interest to reach a solution for disputes between GCC countries," hoping that the GCC regains its unity so future challenges can be confronted.

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE, and Bahrain cut their diplomatic ties with Qatar in a coordinated step. Yemen, East Libya government, and the Maldives weighed in this step as well.
