France Médias Monde Rejects Bahraini Desire to Appoint Reporter to Replace Nazeeha Saeed

2017-05-31 - 5:14 am

Bahrain Mirror: The France Médias Monde (FMM) broadcaster denounced the verdict issued against Bahraini journalist Nazeeha Saeed after she was accused of reporting without license for foreign agencies. FMM believed this verdict to be an "attack against freedom of expression".

The broadcasting group added in a statement that "it will continue to mobilize its efforts for its correspondent, and will continue to cover her defense expenses, as her lawyers announced their intention to appeal the verdict."

Moreover, FMM said that the Bahraini authorities, which have for over 12 years given Nazeeha a work license, informed her in June 2016 that her regular request to renew her license was rejected.

Authorities had expressed its desire that the FMM appointed a new correspondent in Bahrain to replace Saeed; an issue rejected by the French media group.

The France-based holding company vowed to continue its "protest tirelessly until Nazeeha Saeed is able to result to practicing her profession freely and legally in her country, just as she did throughout 12 years."
