Al-Wefaq: Verdict against Ayatollah Qassim Targets Jaafari Sect, Triggers Need for Our Protection as Humans

Bahrain Mirror: Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society confirmed in a statement that the regime is leading Bahrain into a new crisis believed to be the biggest and widest. It stated that through this measure, the regime is risking the future of Bahrain, and eliminating all possible political opportunities through depriving the majority of Bahrainis security, stability, and justice. This comes after transiting to the stage dubbed by Al-Wefaq "stage of criminalizing following the Jaafari doctrine", in reference to the verdict issued against Ayatollah Isa Qassim.

"We assure the world that today we are facing a war (...), we need protection and defense of our rights as humans and citizens, and everyone needs to hold ethical, humanitarian, and legal responsibility in providing protection for Bahrainis and their religious authorities," Al-Wefaq added in its statement.

Moreover, the opposition party demanded the international community to play a role to guarantee the stability of the country, and preserve its components, through activating an inclusive political and democratic process that brings the country out of its current crisis and reflects the popular will.

Al-Wefaq also called on the Bahrainis to express their anger and rejection of this unjust verdict by all legitimate peaceful means, especially that the risk of implementing the ruling remains possible although the court is void and doesn't have any legal ground.

Al-Wefaq said that the criminalization of the Khums ritual is a criminalization of the entire Jaafari sect, and a challenge against a doctrine that is deep-rooted since the early days of Islam.

In this context, Al-Wefaq stressed that the regime courts issued Sunday (May 21, 2017) a sectarian and historic ruling in the history of Bahrain, which expresses the lack of consensus between the majority of the people and the ruling family. It also exhibits the lack of trust the people have in the legitimacy of the regime, which has been practicing the worst crimes against the Bahraini people since 7 years.
