Bahrain Mirror- Exclusive: Sweden demanded Bahrain to halt dissolution of opposing political societies and lift restrictions on freedom of association and assembly, especially among Shiite citizens.
Sweden's recommendations came within an intervention it made on Monday (May 1, 2017) in the 27th session of the UPR in Geneva on Bahrain's human rights record.
It recommended Bahrain's government to halt the dissolution of political parties and civil society organizations and protects rights to trade union and freedom of assembly.
It added that "Al-Wefaq, the largest political society in Bahrain, was dissolved in 2016 and the cassation court upheld the decision," shedding the light on the increasing restrictions on freedom of association and assembly, especially among Shiite citizens.
Sweden also urged Bahrain to eliminate death penalty and ensure the independence and integrity of control mechanisms.
