Bahrain Mirror-Exclusive: Montenegro welcomed the invitation extended to UN High Commissioner to visit Bahrain, stating that the visit should include Shiite villages. Meanwhile, South Korea demanded the Bahraini Government to proceed in the dialogue to face challenges and recommended it to accept the visit of UN Special Rapporteurs to the country.

This came within an intervention it made on Monday (May 1, 2017) in the 27th session of the UPR in Geneva on Bahrain's human rights record.

Montenegro stated "there is limited progress in facing torture status in Bahrain. We express concerns over what was mentioned in the OHCHR report regarding ongoing arrest cases, statuses of detainees and torture in detention centres."

It welcomed the UN High Commissioner's invitation to visit Bahrain, stressing that the visit should include Shiite villages. It also recommended Bahrain to stop death penalty, guarantee the independence of human rights institutions and protect them from pressure.

For its part, South Korea said that "political and civil rights issues remain a concern in Bahrain. We believe that proceeding in the dialogue is the only way to face challenges," calling it to "accept visit of UN Special Rapporteurs."
