Bahrain: 36 Citizenship Revocations, 3 Life Sentences in Politically Motivated Case

Bahrain Mirror: The fourth High Criminal Court presided over by Judge Ali al-Zahrani, ruled today (Tuesday April 25, 2017) in favor of citizenship revocation verdicts against 36 defendants in a politically motivated case.
The course also issued 3 to 10 years imprisonment verdicts against 33 defendants, while it ruled 3 life sentences against 3 others, after accusing them of "establishing and joining a terrorist group, receiving funds, and possessing weapons."
Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against political detainees, since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
