Appeal: 5-Year Jail Term to Defendants Accused of Escaping from Prisoners Transport Bus

Bahrain Mirror: The Supreme Court of Appeals upheld 5-year jail term against a defendant in the case of escaping from prisoners transport bus that was transporting them from Dry Dock Prison.

The First High Criminal Court had issued 5-year jail term against 9 defendants accused of escaping from prisoners transport bus that was transporting them from Dry Dock Prison and bound them to pay 1217.7000 BD for the damages caused to the bus.

The incident that took place on December 22, 2013 started when the bus transporting inmates to the court was intentionally hit by one car from the front and another from the back. The bus driver was surprised by the cars' drivers who also threatened the police in bus. The inmates also threatened the police and obliged them to open the bus's door. 6 inmates were able to flee with the help of three others and one unknown.

The Public Prosecution referred all the suspects to the court after accusing them of using violence and force, along with other unknown, against public officers. It also accused them of deliberately damaging public property, noting that the damages worth of 1217 BD, entering Al-Hid elementary school for boys contrary to the will of the person in charge of it and attacking the bodily integrity of the victims.
