On Int’l Women’s Day, Bahrain Transparency Calls for Release of Women Detainees

Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain Transparency Society (BTS) issued a statement on International Women's Day Wednesday (March 8, 2017), in which is called on the Bahraini authorities to release all women detainees held in cases linked to freedom of opinion and expression. The society also demanded the situation of women in the labor arena to be addressed.
Bahrain Transparency Society noted that "women associations and other civil society associations represent a real partner of the legislative and executive authorities in achieving sustainable development goals." It also stressed on the women associations' roles in spreading anti-violence culture.
At least 7 women are held in Bahraini prisons over charges varying from posting "Tweets", taking part in assemblies, or hiding relatives wanted by the Bahraini authorities for participating in protests.
