Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's scholars said on Tuesday (February 28, 2017) that the public prosecution's demand to issue the harshest sentences against Shiite leader Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim for performing one of the sect's rituals "threatens the sect and targets its rituals and beliefs."

The statement considered that the prosecution's demand is a "revenge against the sect for demanding its joint national political demands between all sects and religious." They added "it is a blatant violation against the religion and the constitution."

The statement described the prosecution as "a torturing unit and one of the regime's tool used to eliminate the opposition," calling it "to consider its words as our religion is not the one that threatens to issue the harshest sentences. Insulting the highest religious leaders reveals the arrogance of this regime and its contempt against people and their figures. It seems that the authorities' madness will not come to an end before being slapped by the people to return them to consciousness."

"The angry crowd is the greatest achievement you can count on in maintaining your religion, dignity, holies and achieving your rights and demands," the statement further stated.

It added "we assure to our proud people that the threats indicators against Islam and against the highest religious authority in Bahrain is increasing and that the regime is proceeding in an approach that causes "catastrophes" to religion and nation. This requires that each Muslim and citizen be ready these days to work hard, day and night, to protect his religion and nation as well."

The statement called to "defend Sheikh Isa Qassim until death" and to strengthen the national unity.
