Bahrain Mirror: The Bilad Al-Qadeem Twitter account posted a letter by Bahraini political prisoner Ibrahim Al-Meqdad's mother addressing her son on his birthday. Al-Meqdad was the first child who was prosecuted under the Terrorism Act.
"My precious son, I wish you a happy 20th birthday. When you were imprisoned, you were the youngest prisoner to be prosecuted under the Terrorism Law, as you were only 15 years old," she said in the letter stressing that she always prays for his release.
A Bahraini court had issued a 15-year prison sentence against Ibrahim Al-Meqdad, although he was under 18 years of age.
Human rights organizations estimate that around 200-240 children were arrested and locked up behind bars in Bahrain.
