Court Commutes 7-Year Jail Term against Defendants to 5 Years over Attempted Murder of Policemen in Sitra

Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's High Appeals Court upheld 7-year jail term against a suspect accused of attempting to murder policemen.

The Appeals court sentenced an appellant to 15 years in prison. The defendant rejected the verdict. Thus, the court, presided by another jury members, commuted the appellant's sentence to 7 years. He rejected the verdict again, however, the court ignored his rejection.

The High Appeals court commuted the verdict issued against 14 appellants, sentencing them from periods ranging from 10 and 15 years in prison to 7 and 5 years over attempted murder of policemen and assembly.

A group pf 50 citizens assembled on September 26, 2014 near Sitra post office, hurled Molotov and stones against the security members situated near the police station and attacked the post office's security guard.

The Public Prosecution said that it could reach 19 political detainees who have links to the incident through investigations.

The prosecution charged them with attempting to murder security guard, assembling and acquiring Molotov.
